HLOOKUP Function (Horizontal Lookup) – Explanation
The HLOOKUP function in Microsoft Excel is used to search for a value in the first row of a table and return a corresponding value from a specified row below it. The “H” stands for horizontal, meaning it works across rows instead of columns.
The syntax of the HLOOKUP function is:
HLOOKUP(lookup_value, table_array, row_index_num, [range_lookup])
- lookup_value: The value you want to find in the first row.
- table_array: The range of cells that contains the data.
- row_index_num: The row number from which to return the value.
- range_lookup: Optional argument (TRUE for approximate match, FALSE for exact match).
For example, if you have student marks arranged horizontally with subjects in the first row, HLOOKUP can help you find the marks of a specific subject.
